Reports

Generate a descriptive summary of the current selection, choose report sections, download CSV files and save the report as PDF through the browser's print dialog.

What a report contains

The Reports section turns the current selection into a document you can keep or share. A report is generated from the same observations as every other panel: the chosen dataset, date range, category filter and search. Change the filters first, then open Reports.

Each report starts with an automatically generated descriptive summary: a short text that states the dataset, the date range and the categories of the selection together with its main descriptive statistics. The summary is assembled from the computed statistics; it describes the selection and makes no predictions or recommendations.

Illustrative data in reports

When a report is generated from an illustrative dataset, it carries the notice “Illustrative Dataset — For Demonstration Purposes”. Do not present such reports as describing real activity.

Selecting sections

Reports are made of sections that you switch on or off before exporting or printing. Only the selected sections appear in the printed document. Use this to keep a report focused, for example a summary plus the frequency table for a distribution review, or the summary plus the statistics table for a period overview.

  1. Set the dataset, date range, category filter and search in the top bar.
  2. Open Reports in the sidebar.
  3. Select the sections to include.
  4. Download the CSV files you need, or print the report.

CSV exports

Three CSV files are available. Each reflects the current selection at the moment you download it. The Export control in the top bar also provides CSV downloads of the current selection, and the observations export is available in the Data Explorer.

ExportRowsContents
Filtered observationsOne per observation in the selectionDate, Observation ID, Category, Value, Source
Summary statisticsThe statistics of the selectionn, mean, median, standard deviation, variance, min, max, Q1, Q3, IQR, skewness (G₁), coefficient of variation
Frequency tableOne per class, lowest to highestClass, absolute frequency, relative frequency, cumulative frequency, cumulative relative frequency

Definitions of the statistics are in Statistical Analysis; classes follow the bin rules in Frequency Analysis, so the frequency table export uses the same classes as the histogram on screen. Statistics that cannot be computed for the selection (for example skewness with fewer than three observations) are left empty.

File format

  • Encoding: UTF-8 with byte order mark, so spreadsheet applications detect the encoding and display characters such as ² or – correctly.
  • Separator: comma. Line endings: CRLF. The first row contains the column headers.
  • Quoting: cells that contain a comma, a double quote or a line break are enclosed in double quotes, and embedded double quotes are doubled (RFC 4180).
  • Dates are written as YYYY-MM-DD.

Formula protection

Text cells that start with =, +, -, @, a tab or a carriage return are prefixed with an apostrophe ('). This prevents spreadsheet applications from interpreting text from the data source as a formula. Numeric values are not changed.

If a spreadsheet application uses a semicolon as list separator (common with some regional settings), open the file through its import function and choose comma as the separator instead of opening it directly.

Limitations

Not available

Excel (.xlsx) export, scheduled reports and automatic delivery by email are not part of the workspace; use the CSV files and the browser's PDF output instead. Team sharing is planned and not available today.

Reports are not stored by Insider Magazin. To keep a report, download the CSV files or save the PDF. To reproduce a report later, note the dataset, date range, categories and search used. Try the workflow with the illustrative datasets at /demo.
